REPLICA
|
|
An authentic handbag or fashion accessory is the
original, designed and manufactured by the designer name on
the name tag. Many of the high fashion designers will
include authenticity cards with the handbag, or will have a
serial number located on the inside of the handbag. In
recent years, some designer handbags have a small hologram
attached to the interior to mark it as an authentic design.
Imitations of handbags and other accessories are copied and
made to look almost like the original, and can even have the
designers name on them. These imitations are called "fakes",
"knockoffs", or "replicas". They are not made with the same
quality craftsmanship and materials as the authentic, and
are often manufactured in 3rd world countries using cheap
factory labor. It should be noted that the manufacture and
sale of knockoff handbags is a violation of copyright
law.

REPTILE SKIN
|
|
Skins used for handbags made from certain types of
reptiles, such as; snakes, turtles, eels, frogs, lizards,
alligators, and crocodiles. All are distinguished by the
unique and attractive patterns of the particular animal's
scaled skin. Some reptile skins are restricted from use in
handbags by laws which protect endangered species, i.e.,
alligators, crocodiles, and sea turtles. Many handbags are
made with cowhide leather or synthetic leather embossed and
dyed to look like a particular reptile skin. Modern handbags
are made look like they are made of the skin of an
endangered species, because the pattern of their skin is
still a popular texture for handbag designs.

RHINESTONES
|
|
An imitation gem stone with a high luster made of glass,
paste, or quartz. Rhinestones are used to decorate both
casual handbags and evening bags, and can be attached to all
sorts of materials from fine fabrics to textured leathers.
Often, rhinestones are used to enhance ornamental beadwork
and metal clasps on evening bags.

RIVET
|
|
A metal pin with a head on one end and inserted through
pieces of material to be joined together and then hammered
on the other end to form a head on the other side. Rivets
are often used on handbags to reinforce the looped ends of a
shoulder strap or carrying handle where it attaches to the
main body of the bag, or at corners where several pieces of
leather or other material come together such as at the top
corner of a compartment divider where it attaches to an
exterior panel.
