    Acetate

A manufactured fabric with cellulose fibers. Acetate fabrics have a smooth flat weave with a resistance to moisture and stains, and are usually used for the interior lining of handbags and clothing with rough weaves.

    Alligator Skin

A leather made from the skin of alligators. Because alligators are an endangered species, the skins are restricted from use in handbags by laws protecting them. Modern handbags are made look like they are made of alligator skin, because the pattern of their skin is still a popular texture for handbag designs. Many handbags are made with cowhide leather or synthetic leather embossed and dyed to look like alligator skin.

    Antiqued Leather

Before any leather is used to make a handbag, it is put through various treatments which create a variety of finishes, textures, colors and appearances. Antiqued leather can have a smooth finish with a mottled, mellow look. The grain of crushed leather is accented by shrinking. Distressed leather is made to look worn or used.

    Authentic

An authentic handbag or fashion accessory is the original designed and manufactured by the designer name on the name tag. Many of the high fashion designers will include authenticity cards with the handbag, or will have a serial stamped on the inside of the handbag. In recent years, some designer handbags will have a small hologram attached to the interior to mark an authentic design. Imitations of handbags and other accessories are copied and made to look almost like the original, and can even have the designers name on them. These imitations are called "fakes", "knockoffs", or "replicas", and are not made with the same quality craftsmanship and materials, and are often manufactured in 3rd world countries with cheap factory labor. It should be noted that the manufacture and sale of fake handbags is a violation of copyright law.
